Access Keys

We have provided a series of keyboard shortcuts intended to help users who have difficulty in using pointing devices such as a mouse. This web site uses a subset of the UK Government's access keys standard. Depending on your browser type use one of the following:

A. With Windows-based systems, in general, press the "Alt" key and the relevant access key:

• If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4 then press "Alt" and the relevant number/letter at the same time.
• If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5 or 6 then press "Alt" and the relevant number/letter, then press the "Enter" key.
• If you are using Netscape version 6 or later, or Mozilla, then press "Alt" and the relevant number/letter at the same time.

B. With Macintosh-based systems, press the "Ctrl" key and the relevant access key.

Alt + S = Skip navigation.
Alt + 0 = Go to access key details.
Alt + 1 = Go to home page (includes "What's New")
Alt + 3 = Go to site map.
Alt + 5 = Go to 'about us' pages.
Alt + 6 = Go to Glossary.
Alt + 7 = Contact us (launches email).
Alt + 8 = Terms and conditions.

Standards Compliance

The CSS supporting this site has been validated The two CSS files that support this site have been validated using the W3C CSS validator.

This site aims to meet all priority 1 requirements of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 (WCAG 1.0). Meeting this standard is commonly known as Level A compliance. Where possible, the site also meets Level AA compliance. There are three notable exceptions to these compliances:

1. Javascript is used on the home page to provide a new image each time the page loads. If you do not have javascript it will not affect the site's navigation or functions.
2. Acronyms are used in several places on the site. A glossary is provided to explain unfamiliar terms and acronyms.
3. This site is built for a minimum screen resolution of 800 x 600 pixels. Absolute values have been used to ensure a stable layout in all browsers.
